Privacy Policy

The short version.
Countr doesn't require an account, and most of your data never leaves your device. When you ask Countr to analyze text or run a practice conversation, the text is sent to our server and a third-party AI provider to generate the result. Screenshots are read on your device — only the recognized text is sent, never the image. We don't sell your data, and we use no third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
This Privacy Policy explains how Vaulted Labs ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the Countr mobile app (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Content you submit for analysis or practice. Text you paste into the Analyzer, messages you type or speak during AI practice conversations, and descriptions you write to create custom practice scenarios. This content is sent to our backend and our AI provider to generate your result (see Section 2).
- Onboarding answers and preferences. The goals and answers you select during setup. These are stored locally on your device to personalize your experience.
- Messages you send us. If you contact us by email, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include.
Information collected automatically
- Technical request data. When the App contacts our server, our hosting infrastructure may temporarily process standard technical information such as your IP address. We use this only to operate the service securely and to enforce rate limits that prevent abuse. We do not use it to build a profile of you.
- Learning progress. Your lesson progress, streaks, and completion state are stored locally on your device.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect your name, your precise location, your contacts, or your photo library. The App does not include third-party advertising SDKs or analytics SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
2. How your submitted content is processed
When you use the Analyzer or the AI conversation trainer, the relevant text is transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our backend, which forwards it to DeepSeek, a third-party AI provider, to generate the analysis or reply. DeepSeek is operated by a company based in China, and your content may be processed on servers located outside your country.
We process this content only to generate your result. We do not store the text you submit on our servers after the request is handled, and we do not use it to train AI models. DeepSeek's handling of data sent to its API is governed by its own terms and privacy policy.
Please do not submit information you consider highly sensitive (for example, government identifiers, financial account numbers, or health information) into the Analyzer or practice conversations.
3. Screenshots and images
When you upload a screenshot to the Analyzer, the image is read on your device using Apple's on-device text recognition. Only the extracted text is sent for analysis — the image itself never leaves your device and is not uploaded to our servers.
4. Voice input
If you choose to speak during practice conversations, your speech is transcribed using Apple's Speech Recognition framework, which may process audio on Apple's systems under Apple's terms. We do not send your audio to our servers; only the resulting transcribed text is used as a conversation message (and processed as described in Section 2). Spoken AI replies are generated on your device.
5. Data stored on your device
Your progress, profile, onboarding answers, and app preferences are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device storage. This information stays on your device and is removed when you delete the App. It may be included in your device backups if you have those enabled.
6. Subscriptions and payments
Countr offers auto-renewing subscriptions sold through Apple's App Store. Payments are processed by Apple — we never receive or store your payment card details. We receive only your subscription status (active or not) through Apple's StoreKit framework to unlock paid features.
7. Notifications
With your permission, the App schedules local reminders (for example, to maintain your daily streak) directly on your device. These are not sent from our servers, and you can disable them at any time in your device settings.
8. Service providers
We rely on a small number of third parties to operate the App:
- Apple — App Store distribution, subscription billing, speech recognition, and notifications.
- Fly.io — hosting of our backend server.
- DeepSeek — AI processing of the text you submit for analysis and practice (see Section 2).
9. Children's privacy
Countr is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The App is rated for a mature audience. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will address it.
10. Data retention and deletion
Because the App does not require an account, the data associated with you lives primarily on your device and is deleted when you remove the App. We do not retain the content you submit for analysis after processing it. To ask a question about data or request deletion of anything you've sent us (such as an email you've written to us), contact us at the address below.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR in the EU/UK or the CCPA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, and to object to certain processing. We do not sell your personal information. To exercise any right, contact us and we will respond as required by applicable law.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected in the App or on this page.
